For a lot of us, it was the most awaited movie of the year. So this Sunday I went to watch Mockingjay Part 1 and as any other The Hunger Games fan, I too was super excited to watch this movie. I knew what was going to happen in it, I even know the ending as I have read the trilogy. But don’t worry; I’m not going to spoil the ending for you guys.
I had high expectations from the movie as Catching Fire closely followed the book. Also, I would like to mention that The Hunger Games Series is one of the movie’s which is very close to its book counterpart. Yes they did make a few changes, like, in the book, Madge, the daughter of District 12’s Mayor fives Katniss the Mockingjay pin, not Prim. Similarly, in this part, Effie plays the role of Katniss’s escort. While in the book, Plutarc had brought his secretary with him to help Katniss from the Capitol.
Yes, this movie too closely followed the book and I’ll be a little honest here, I found the book a little boring as nothing much was happening before they rescued Peeta from the Capitol. This is why most of you might not have enjoyed the movie much. Also, it might have been confusing in some parts like, why Katniss got scared when she saw a fresh white rose kept amongst the vase of dried flowers. I was a little disappointed in the way they had shown Finnick’s ‘not so little’ revelation of President Snow. In the book, it was explained so beautifully, we got to see an entirely different side of Finnick and why he was so famous in the Capitol after he won the games. I would have liked more concentration on his part.
When it comes to acting, no doubt the actors are great. And can we even imagine any other actor playing the role of Katniss Everdeen? Or for that matter Peeta Mellark? They clearly have delved themselves into their respective roles and took it very seriously; well that’s what great actors do.
Also, I will have to mention the work of make-up artists in the movie. My heart broke after seeing Peeta while he was being tortured. The weakness showed on his face and all thanks to the make-up put on his face to make him look like that.
There is a song named ‘The Hanging Tree’ which was sung by Jennifer Lawrence herself and I felt really happy about that. It was a great idea to let Lawrence sing the song herself as the raw emotions were conveyed perfectly to the audience. Plus, she didn’t sound so bad. The rawness in her voice was the main element of the song.
At last I would like to say is, the movie was good if not great and I’m sure that the second part would be far beyond what we all expect from it; it would be great (I think I have overused this word in the review). My advice would be, if you want to watch this movie, then do read the book(s) first, if you haven’t till now. You would be able to understand the movie in a better way.
