Taking Care of Your Tresses

For women, hair is their pride. Everyone looks twice at a woman whose hair is perfectly managed. Usually, men complain that women take too much time in dressing up. But here is the truth dear men; we, of the fairer sex do not waste most of the time in deciding what to wear, our majority of the time is consumed in managing our manes.

Every girl wants her hair to be perfect; to be soft, thick, lustrous and long. And to achieve all of this, many women frequently go to the parlors to get their hair styled, colored and what not. But what we don’t see is, treating your beautiful tresses with chemicals again and again weaken them from the roots. If you want long and shiny hair like Rapunzel, you have to take care of them regularly. I have wavy hair which gives me the best of both worlds. I can straighten them up easily when I have to go out and I don’t need to curl them up as they are already wavy swavy in nature. I never felt the need to go to a salon and get my hair treated (even though sometimes they turn out to be such a pain in the ass). I am not a fan of chemical treatments and I am saying this with pride that I have never gotten my hair chemically treated, never ever!

Now, there are four different types of scalp :

Dry : Hair is dry from roots to ends and the scalp is itchy.
Oily : Hair gets greasy by midday and are limp.
Normal : Hair doesn’t look greasy or dry if you skip shampoo.
Combination : The scalp and roots are oily but the hair is dry at the end.

Here are 10 hair care tips which would work on any and every type of hair type :

Wash your hair with a shampoo of your hair type. But don’t wash it with a shampoo on a daily basis as it can leave your hair dry because the chemicals present in the shampoo leeches out the oils and damage the hair.

Do not forget to apply conditioner after washing your hair with a shampoo. Either use a conditioner which suits you or make one at home.

3. Hair care6

Brush your hair. Brushing your hair stimulates the follicles which promotes growth, but brushing too much, will cause damage to your hair strands that results in frizz and split ends. After you shower, use a wide toothed comb to de-tangle your manes.

Let your hair dry naturally. Also, do not rub your hair vigorously while towel drying because it splits the hair.

5. Hair care7

Trim your hair to avoid split ends. Trimming is one of the only ways to increase your hair length.

6. Hair care0

Oil your hair on a regular basis. If you have an oily scalp, then apply oil only to the tips. Massaging your scalp often, helps in increasing the blood flow which leads to speedy growth of hair. Personally I think that olive oil helps a lot in increasing the hair length. It has worked wonder on my hair!

Avoid blow drying your hair. If you have to dry your hair urgently, prefer to use the cold dry option. Or blow dry in low heat. Similarly, straighten/curl your hair only if you have to as the heat from these objects damages the tresses and dry them.

8. Do not sleep with wet or damp hair. This will weaken the follicles and make hair strands brittle.

9. hair care14

Apply some masks which suit your scalp type. You won’t see a change in a few days but applying it regularly with definitely bring a massive change in the way your hair looks.

After de-tangling your hair, use a bristle brush to comb it as it distributes the oil proportionately.

I had to take a lot of trouble to manage my hair as sometimes they used to be very fluffy or very oily. I have a combination type of scalp and it gets so annoying as you don’t know what method to adopt to maintain them. I tried changing shampoos and applying hair serums, but nothing helped. I thought of treating my hair through home made stuff and I found out an amazing hair mask and it has worked wonders.

What I do :

Hair Mask – Mix 1 egg yolk and 2 tsp honey and apply it to your scalp. Keep it for 30 minutes and wash it away with a shampoo.

Hair Conditioner – Boil water (the amount depends on the length of your hair) and add 1 tbsp tea to it. Sieve the water and add a few drops of lemon juice to it.

After washing your hair with a shampoo, rinse with the conditioner. (It will also help in getting rid of the smell of the egg yolk.)

Apply it once a week and notice the change in your hair. They will get shiny and fluffy. As I have wavy hair, it enhances the curves and add volume to my mid-back length tresses.

  1. These are some great tips, especially the one about air drying your hair. Blow drying is the death of healthy hair. However, I wouldn’t use a brush on my hair for several reasons.
